Pelorus Garden Club

Introduction

Pelorus Garden Club had its origins as the Rai Valley Garden Club which went into recess in the 1950’s, re-emerging around 1974. As membership increased so did the area covered by its members thus leading to its re-naming as the Pelorus Garden Club. Current members come from Rai Valley, Pelorus, through to Havelock, the inner Kenepuru Sound through to The Grove, and through to Okaramio and even parts of Renwick and Blenheim.

The garden club meets on the 3rd Wednesday every month throughout the year, except in January - when most members are on family holidays. A varied programme of events, workshops, guest speakers, garden visits and outings is produced to suit all tastes, ages and gardening abilities and situations.

A raffle, sales table of members’ produce and plants generate funds for the Club to subsidise outings, and a low-key floral competition are regular features at each meeting.

For newcomers to the area it is a great way to find new friends, explore the region’s gardens, and to learn what suits your new patch of garden paradise!
